How do I apply for a J-1 internship?

J-1 Internship

STEP 1

Complete and submit the J1 Participation Application and Application Fee with the following supplemental documents:

  • Resume

  • Internship Objectives

  • Cost of Living Worksheet

  • Participant Agreement Form

  • Official transcript, degree/certificate, or signed statement from post-secondary academic institution outside the USA indicating that you are either currently enrolled or have graduated

  • 2 Letters of Reference

STEP 2

  • Schedule and complete webcam interview with US INTERN

  • You must demonstrate English language skills and possess comprehension of English terminology of your field

STEP 3

The processing time at US INTERN is typically 2-4 weeks.  However, the application process may be shorter or longer, depending on how quickly US INTERN receives all necessary materials and information from you and your candidate.

US INTERN will not review your application until all documents and payment have been submitted.  If your employer requires a site visit the review process may take longer.

Expedited processing is available for an additional fee.

STEP 4

Once your application is accepted, schedule the visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

IMPORTANT
Please apply at least 2 months prior to your internship start date to allow sufficient time for the application review and Embassy/Consulate appointment, as well as to finalize your travel arrangements.
